Seattle, Sleepy Sun and dinner with Bill Gates
OK, I promise to stop banging on about my recent trip to the US after this post. But in all my excitement about Caitlin Rose (see previous post for link to feature), one small musical experience got left behind.
While I was in Seattle to do a piece about the Dreamliner 787, I left a posh dinner with the Boeing people early (how posh? Bill Gates was in the restaurant) to go and catch a band whose album had caught my ear a few weeks ago (http://tiny.cc/p4zfv).
They were playing a tiny bar in Seattle called Chop Suey, so I hopped in a cab, took my place next to the speaker and watched in awe. They were younger than I’d expected them to be from listening to the album. Louder and, in Rachel Fannan (or is it Williams, the internet can’t seem to decide?), possess not only one of my favourite voices but also a (let’s just say) utterly unique dancer.
Needless to say I pulled out the iPhone and recorded a song that’s way too long to post here (Sleepy Sun songs can happily wig out for up to eight minutes).
The sound quality sucks as I was way too close to the action, but it’s worth checking these snippets out to get an idea of Williams’ gorgeous voice in the one, and then a sample of her moves in the other.
