Fulham are better than Manchester United and Arsenal – official

Fulham narrowly missed out on winning the inaugural Europa League

If asked to name the best teams in England it would be quite straight forward – wouldn’t it? Well according to the latest Club World Rankings, you may need to reassess.

Fulham have been placed above Manchester United and Arsenal, and are only beaten to the award of the top English side by west London rivals Chelsea. The Cottagers’ place at number nine in the rankings means they are also rated above Real Madrid and AC Milan.

The list has been compiled by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, which takes into account all matched played between August 1 2009 and July 30 2010 in domestic league, domestic cup and continental cup competitions. Barcelona and Inter Milan share the top spot, while Chelsea are the highest placed English side at number seven. Fulham’s surprise appearance is due to their remarkable run to the Europa League final.

The list is likely to put a smile on the faces of Fulham fans but it would be wise not to take the table too seriously. Apparently Manchester City are the 142nd best club side – 14 places behind Dundee United. Meanwhile Real Madrid are down in 20th place despite only just missing out on the La Liga title.
