The Friday Playlist: It might get loud
A friend of mine is directing a play shortly and earlier in the week we were chatting about music he could use for the beginning of the show. He was looking for a song whose opening bars were a loud blast of music to arrest the audience’s attention. With that discussion in mind I’ve put a few of the songs I came up with into this week’s Spotify playlist.
I’ve never really been into big 70s rock, so much of my thoughts focussed on artrock of the 80s and 90s, with a few more recent additions. Then, mainly for variety, I threw in a Philip Glass piece as it does have a pretty kick-ass opening.
Any suggestions for other tracks with loud beginnings? From electro or hip-hop or classical? Pop them in the comments section below.
Here’s the tracklist
The Wrong Way – TV on the Radio
Only Shallow – My Bloody Valentine
Come Together – Spiritualized
Freak Out – Liars
Ca Plane Pour Moi – Sonic Youth
Plaster Casts Of Everything – Liars
Sugarcube – Yo La Tengo
Boyfriend – Best Coast
Death Valley ‘69 – Sonic Youth
Feed Me With Your Kiss – My Bloody Valentine
Release The Bats – The Birthday Party
Symphony No 8: Movement 1 – Philip Glass
