A Mormon-style Devotee Speaks

I see that the Daily Mail journalist John Kampfner has repeated his claim that I called him a Saddamite in a radio discussion. I am, indeed, the “Mormon-style devotee” of Blair’s “tiny army of defenders” to whom he referred in The Independent this week. (Mormon Temple, Salt Lake City, right.)

What I said was that it was a pity that he should have lent credibility to the slogans of the Stop the War Coalition, which I called an alliance of Trotskyists and Saddamites. We may have been discussing to mind-rotting use of the term “war criminal”, so I was pleased to see that Kampfner disagrees with the implication of Blair’s “moral equivalence with the likes of Milosevic or Liberia’s Charles Taylor”.

Let us at least agree on that.
