What Wayne Rooney could do with £200,000 that he can’t with £150,000
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney wants to leave Manchester United. Why the England striker wants to move on is unclear. Even Ferguson admitted “we cannot quite understand why he would want to leave.”
There are rumours of a rift with Ferguson (although the United manager denies this) and there’s also talk that he’s unhappy with the direction United are heading. Yet the strongest argument, as written about by Sam Wallace in today’s Independent, is that he’s had his head turned by the cash on offer elsewhere, and in particular Manchester City.
During today’s revelations by Ferguson he intimated that United were prepared to make Rooney an offer “that would be difficult to better elsewhere.” That’s thought to be in the region of £150,000-a-week. Yet Manchester City would be able to pay Rooney in the region of £200,000. When talking in these kinds of figures it can become difficult to make sense of it all. Surely £150,000 is enough, isn’t it? To try and make things a little clearer lets take a look at what Rooney could do with the extra £50k.
Ferrari
Footballers love a flash car and they’ve got garages big enough for a few of them. If Rooney wanted a new car a week and he went to his local Ferrari dealership he could only buy the measly Ferrari California (currently priced at £143,870). With the extra £50k he could have a Ferrari 599 every week.
Hotel
The recent prostitute scandal involving Rooney took place at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester. You can pick up a room there for £50 a night (and they’ll even put in an extra bed for kids at no extra cost). But on £200,000-a-week Rooney can look a bit up market. How about the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa in Las Vegas. The rotating bed alone makes it worth the very reasonable £25,000 a night. He could stay there seven nights a week and
still have £200 left over for a pack of cigarettes.
Cigarettes
And on the subject of cigarettes, with the extra £50k, Rooney could buy 8620 packs a week. Smokin’.
Houses
If Rooney got bored of staying at the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa he could buy a new house to live in. In fact he could have a new house every week. A quick search brought up a lovely two bedroom property in South Ockendon in Essex for a very reasonable £179,995. Although, he might be more interested in a place in Madrid or Barcelona.
Jewellery
Following the recent scandal, Rooney had a lot of making up to do with his wife Coleen. And what better way to say sorry than with some jewellery. For Coleen’s 21st birthday Rooney bought her a £200,000 ten-carat diamond ring. He could get one of those every week. On £150,000, anything he could afford would just look a bit rubbish in comparison.
So as you can see, there are loads of reasons why £200,000 is better than £150,000. You can drive faster, rotate on a bed, smoke to your content, become a property mogul and make your wife very happy. Maybe Roy Keane was on to something when he advised Rooney to look out for himself.
