iBet: Barcelona to win the Champions League
Champions League, outright betting
Back Barcelona at 9/4 with Betfair
You would find it hard to find anyone who doesn’t think that Barcelona are the best football team on the planet. Their 5-0 dismantling of an otherwise impressive Real Madrid in La Liga was, quite simply, the most complete footballing display I have ever seen and my sporting highlight of 2010. In Pique, Puyol, Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets and Villa, manager Pep Guardiola has the spine of the Spanish national team, themselves the world champions – and of course the sprinkling of magic on the top is Lionel Messi. It’s really very hard to see who is going to beat them – which makes the available 9/4 an outstanding price in my opinion. The have crushed the second favourites Real Madrid (4.3/1); the third favourites Chelsea (6.4/1) are a mess; and the fourth favourites Man Utd (8.6/1), while unbeaten, don’t look anything like good enough to win the Champions League.
Advices
We’ve already backed Arsenal to win the Carling Cup but for some reason the odds of between 4/6 and 4/7 are still available. I think that’s an outstanding price and I’m going in for a bit more. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger knows he needs to secure some silverware this year and is fielding a full strength side in this competition for the first time. Arsenal face Ipswich on January 12th and if they get through, Birmingham or West Ham in the final.
