Caught & Social: Kanye in no mood for smiling

Untitled 133 236x300 Caught & Social: Kanye in no mood for smilingKanye West looked his very fiercest as he took to the front row of the Rodarte show at New York Fashion Week. We’re not sure if the hip-hop superstar was unimpressed by having to wait for the show to start, the uncomfortablelooking chairs, or if he just wasn’t in the mood to dazzle us with his diamond teeth (yes, he really has got diamond teeth). Looking like she was enjoying herself slightly more, however, was Kirsten Dunst, pictured with Sofia Coppola, her director in the film Marie Antoinette.

Here’s a picture for fans of 30 Rock. As Jack Donaghy, sorry, Alec Baldwin, is honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday for his TV work. Alec, who described himself as “kind of blown away”by the honour, was accompanied by actress Megan Mullally and his brother, Stephen Baldwin. Following the theme of today’s column, Stephen is also caught up in a case of celebrity litigation: he is suing Kevin Costner over an investment in a device to clean up the Mexican oil spill. It all sounds messy.

Quick chat: Billy Ray Cyrus talks to ‘GQ’

You thought Hannah Montana was fun for all the family? Think again. Billy Ray Cyrus tells GQthat the show, which starred him and his 18-year old daughter Miley, “destroyed my family. I’ll tell you right now – the damn show destroyed my family … it’s all sad”. Whenever his daughter was subject to bad press or controversy he says that he shouldered the blame: “I took it, because I’m her daddy, and that’s what daddies do. ‘OK, nail me to the cross, I’ll take it….’”Billy Ray, once famous for his song “Achy Breaky Heart”, goes on to compare his daughter to late stars Kurt Cobain, Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson. “I don’t know. I’m her daddy so maybe I’m a little sensitive to it, but now’s a real good time to make sure everything’s OK. An ounce of prevention’s worth a pound of cure.”

David Beckham left the rest of mankind looking a bit scruffy as he threw on his sharpest suit for wife Victoria (and the cameras) as he went out for a Valentine’s night date in New York. But it wasn’t the happy occasion it could have been. David was suffering from what are called “legal woes”as his claim for libel and slander, after a magazine alleged he slept with a prostitute, was thrown out of court. Beckham has always denied the reports and was suing for $25m (£15.5m). His lawyer said he would appeal.

Scene & heard

It’s not just David Beckham involved in legal woes. Rihanna is being sued by famed photographer David LaChapelle, who is accusing her of plagiarising his work in her video for “S&M”(not sausages and mash, the other one). The photographer is seeking unspecified damages as, according to his claim, “the music video is directly derived from and substantially similar to the LaChapelle works”. In other angry celebrity news, Whoopi Goldberg has very publicly rebuked The New York Times. The actress criticised the paper for omitting her from a list of black Oscar winners in a story about racial diversity in this year’s list of nominations. Past winners Halle Berry, Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman all got a mention, but not Whoopi, who won in 1990 for Ghost and was nominated for The Color Purple. She said she had “been dismissed and erased by the New York Times film critics, who should know better”.
