Online House Hunter: Olympic home win
A NEW cliche has been added to the repertoire of estate agents anywhere east of Tower Bridge: “Close to the Olympic Park”.
And who can blame them. The Olympic and Paralympic Games are just over a year away and the investment in London E15 has been immense.
Those wishing to move to the area ahead of the Games should aim for the Stratford area bounded by the A11 and A12 although there are many Olympic venues spread throughout the country. Whether you are looking for a two-bedroom house for sale in West Ham or a three-bedroom house for sale in Leyton, you’ll find plenty happening in the run-up to 2012 – and afterwards.
I mentioned in a previous blog the Highstreet 2012 regeneration programme taking place along the A11 and A12 but that’s just one project. The athletes village will see 2,818 homes being built which, after the games, will be converted into family homes. Triathlon Homes will own and manage the home at athletes village.
And Westfield Stratford City may have a label of “mega shopping centre” on it at the moment but this too will herald many new homes entering the market. After the 2012 Games, the Olympic Park will be renamed the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and from 2013 onwards, parts of the Park and the five permanent 2012 Games sporting venues will begin to reopen alongside the construction of up to 11,000 new homes and community facilities.
So if you’re hunting for a home that is soon to have one of the coolest addresses in the UK, make your way to the starting block.
