Clegg Rage

John Rentoul

clegg sil595 300x141 Clegg RageOne line from Andrew Grice’s analysis yesterday of the Liberal Democrat leader’s predicament struck me:

Mr Clegg is frustrated that he gets a kicking from both The Guardian and the Daily Mail. The former reflects the anger on the left that he hopped into bed with the Conservatives. The right-wing press would – surprise, surprise – prefer a pure Tory Government not tempered by the Liberal Democrats.

How sweet for us Blairite ultras to see Nick Clegg, who rode the tide of anti-Blair sanctimony whipped up by that very alliance of “left-” and right-wing press, fighting for breath as he is swept away by the same malign forces.

The Indy is the only paper that Lib Dems can read these days without being overcome by the urge to give up.

By the way, has anyone else noticed the lack of reaction to the BBC putting an extremist in charge of Question Time?: http://tinyurl.com/69d6at3

@ BlairSupporter re hundreds or thousands

I say 100s as it was clear that Bush would have gone in with or without the support of the UK, to mollify US public opinion in the face of 9/11 given that there were no real targets in Afganistan that they could hit.

I think we can only really ‘credit’ Tony with the loss of hundreds (mainly our own troups) to be fair to him.

As for the 63% statistic – Well Ms.BlairSupporter where did you get your 63% of people in this country supporting the war?

I’m off to make some jam – stick to what I know.

You were challenging Mrs Cake’s view that the LibDems spoke on behalf of the majority in opposing the invasion of Iraq. The ICM question to which you say the results were 54% was in fact the response to the question: “Do you think *America* was right or wrong to invade Iraq?” It was part of a survey designed to find out what the world thinks of America. There is a difference! In any event, as you say, that was three months after the invasion.

I think you owe Mrs Cake an apology.

“Bottoms” seem quite an obsession with you and Rentoul too – I am sure Rentoul would like to say “bottoms up” to dear Mr Blair. Then of course, that is one of Rentoul’s pet phrases…….Are you by any chance Rentoul in stockings and suspenders, just pretending to be a young lady?

    @ AG-

(New comment thread. Usual “reply” limited problem.)

    You said –

Question to which the answer is “no”.

Btw, thought you should know, Mr Giles, that notification of your comments on here, as if with some instinctive homing instinct, always dump themsleves into my “junk” box. The rest of the Indie’s notifications don’t. Odd that, don’t you think?

    Cheers.

    I mean – bottoms up.
