Online House Hunter: Village idyll
ONE of my favourite websites has come up with the top villages in England.
TheAdvisory is full of practical advice in plain english about selling or moving home and editor Gavin Brazg has blogged the ten villages based on number of homes sold for over £1m.
Top of the charts is East Horsley in Surrey with 46 homes selling for over £1m but hot on its heels is the idyllic Cookham on the banks of the River Thames with 41 £1m plus sales. Artist Stanley Spencer was born and lived most of his life in this Berkshire village, using many of the local scenes for his depcitions of events from the Bible. There’s a Stanley Spencer Gallery in the village.
We move north to Alderley Edge in Cheshire for number three in the property hit parade – the home of course to many top footballers and their WAGs.
At number four, it’s back down south to Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire – one of a number of Chalfont villages which are set in beautiful countryside but close enough to the M25, London and Heathrow airport to make them a practical proposition for businessmen and women.
And if it’s pretty you’re after then Prestbury in Cheshire is at number five with 32 homes sold for over £1m.
