Purple prose
Oh well. It’s doomed then. The Purple Book, a collection of essays by Labour modernisers echoing The Orange Book of Liberal Democrats, will have a theme, according to Rachel Sylvester in The Times (pay wall):
The overarching theme will be the need to move away from reliance on a big State and redistribute power to individuals and communities.
If only the theme were not overarching, and had nothing to do with the State (particularly a capitalised one) or with communities, we Blairites might stand a chance.
Update: Apologies to those who found my hastily-written and sarcastic reference to one of this blog’s themes, the Banned List, too obscure. “Overarching” has now been added to the List, as has any reference of this kind to “the State” (the relationship of the State to the individual, communities, civil society; the role of the State – the permutations are endless and just as meaningless). Community and communities are already on the List.
