Caught & Social: Celebrity fans turn out for Duran Duran at Cannes
C&S headed to Cannes for a weekend of party and nightclub research. First stop was the Duran Duran concert at the launch party for Belvedere RED, where profits from vodka will go towards African charity work. Spotted at the VIP Rooms nightclub were several of the band’s star fans, including Owen Wilson, Jude Law, Rob Lowe, Quincy Jones and the biggest of them all, Rosario Dawson, who said of the band with typical thespian understatement: “I love them so much I could die.”The actor and singer Jamie Foxx then gave fans another show, when he picked up the mic for an impromptu 4am set. And Duran Duran got a private performance of their own later, when they were serenaded in their dressing room with a version of “Girls on Film”by one of the theatrical dwarves working at the club.
Scene & heard
Sir Mick Jagger might have a hefty social caché, but on Saturday he discovered a party so exclusive that not even he could get into it. The Rolling Stone, pictured, arrived by boat to Len Blavatnik’s yacht, Odessa, where Blavatnik and producer Harvey Weinstein were hosting a lunch for such acting talent as Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jane Fonda, but he was promptly given the heaveho. That might be because he turned up with seven friends. A partygoer tells us the rejection was “for safety reasons”.
Lindsay Lohan’s jail time won’t affect her roles in gangster movies Gotti: Three Generations and Mob Street. “Lindsay is a talented and beautiful actress,”insists producer Marc Fiore. Who knew?
In other film news, Angelina Jolie wasn’t in town just to walk the red carpet. She was also there to tout her directorial debut, In The Land of Blood and Honey, and secured a distributor for the Bosnianset film. It is due for release in the US by the end of 2011.
Sarah Jessica Parker looks half-woman half-butterfly as she arrives at the premiere of noir-ish Chinese martial arts film Wu Xia in Cannes. Earlier on we encountered her at the vitaminwater bar in the Martinez Hotel bar to promote her forthcoming comedy I Don’t Know How She Does It. Presenting the film she admitted she was nervous addressing the crowd, saying: “Terror and thrilled are very closely married.”
Faye’s on top of the world
Not only does Faye Dunaway have the honour of being the poster girl for this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but she was also honoured as an officier in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. “Cannes is not commercial, for God’s sake,”she said (let’s hope she doesn’t see this page, then). “Cannes is the only festival in the world, and the only entity in the world, that honours great film, from all over the world.”Tagged in: angelina jolie, Cannes, Faye Dunaway, lindsay lohan, Mick Jagger, Rosario Dawson, sarah jessica parker
