Caught & Social: Like a Downing Street dossier, Campbell declares charity match ‘tasty in parts’
Quite how the shy, retiring and noncombative Alastair Campbell found himself in the middle of an angry football fracas yesterday is beyond us, but happen it did, at the Soccer Six celebrity charity match in Burnley. The former Labour party spin doctor, playing for a team of Burnley fans, found himself face to face with an angry Tom Parker, a member of the boyband The Wanted, after they had tackled each other a couple of times. Campell’s son and Parker’s teammates all became involved before the referee managed to calm things down. The match ended in a victory for the Clarets, while Parker’s afternoon ended less happily as he was taken off in a later match with a suspected broken leg (nothing to do with Campbell, before you ask). Afterwards Campbell wrote on Twitter that the match was “tasty in parts”, but said that the bust up was “all a bit handbags”. He also tweeted to Parker and his band that it was “good to meet you. Sorry to hear of injury. Thought ours was a good competitive match.” Ever the spinner…
Scene & heard
“In Sydney, people just get drunk and sleep together,”actress Rose Byrne tells Psychologies. “That’s what happens in London, too… In Los Angeles it’s very much ‘where are you on the ladder?’”
Contradicting this is LA’s Cameron Diaz. “Sex is the sexiest word in the English language,”she tells the News of the World. “I’m ALWAYS in the mood.” Who to believe?
In non-sexy news, Kanye West prefaces the music video for Monster, which features dead women on hooks and him arranging a corpse threesome, thus: “[It] is in no way to be interpreted as misogynistic or negative towards any groups of people. It is an art piece and it shall be taken as such.” Which makes it all OK.
Penn gets into‘Guy Hall of Fame’
What, for an actor, could possibly top an Oscar? Maybe a set of “mantlers” from the Guy’s Choice Awards in LA? Now Sean Penn is one of a few stars who have both, after the ceremony on Saturday night. The actor, who spends much of his time working on aid projects in Haiti, was inducted into the Guy Hall of Fame the award by fellow “Guy”Robert De Niro. Jennifer Aniston was recognised for a “Decade of Hotness”. She thanked her yoga instructor.
“I’d like to be a dope tester, but in politics. So you’d never know when I was going to turn up or which parliament I was going to turn up at” James McAvoy tells the Capital FM breakfast show what he would do if he had telepathic powers
Jack gives us a real kick
For the past few weeks Jack Black has been touring the world from Los Angeles to Cannes, promoting his new animated film Kung Fu Panda 2. And when he arrived in London yesterday for the film’s London premiere, he appeared to still be in character (as a kung fu fighting panda), showing off some trouserdefying martial arts moves on the red carpet, like this flying kick. And, in what could become a trend for the lazier film star, he was then driven around the red carpet on a branded rickshaw.Tagged in: alastair campbell, celebrity gossip, Jack Black, James McAvoy, kanye west, Rose Byrne, Sean Penn
