Back Brentford to be the top ‘Inner London club’ at 5/2 with Victor Chandler
The League One league betting is dominated by Northern clubs but I think three southerners in Milton Keynes, Brentford and Charlton could have a real say. There has been a plunge on Charlton and they certainly impressed in their first game with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth. People have highlighted that Bournemouth made the play-offs last year, but they have lost some of their best players and that result might not be as good as it looks on paper. Brentford also won their first game – 2-0 against Yeovil – and since Uwe Rosler took over they have had an excellent pre-season including a shut-out against Championship side Watford and a 1-0 defeat of a full strength Stoke. Rosler has done some very good business including the acquisition of Man City full back Shaleum Logan and Celtic winger Niall McGinn. The signing of Crewe’s 29 goal top scorer from last season, Clayton Donaldson, also really catches my eye. The market is only available from Victor Chandler and is a three way heat between Brentford (5-2), Charlton (1-2) and Leyton Orient. I think Brentford (12-1 for the League One title) should be 5-4 joint favourites and therefore I make them a bet.
Advices
It’s a fairly tricky looking set of opening weekend fixtures in the Premiership with a lay of Stoke against Chelsea at 5-1 and a lay of under 1.5 goals the Liverpool v Sunderland game the only two bets I’m considering. Over the years I have learnt to keep my powder dry in the early weeks of the season and I tend to only start trading full points from September, with the middle of the season usually the most lucrative.
