Football Chat: Super Sergio Aguero, David De Gea needs time and Joey Barton gets up to his old tricks
£35m well spent on Sergio Aguero
A new name for English football… and he arrives in two goal style. £35m Sergio Aguero, signed from Atletico Madrid, made his Manchester City debut when he came on as a 59th minute substitute in the 4-0 win over Swansea on Monday night. He scored twice within 22 minutes to send the home supporters crackers over their latest expensive and exciting signing. Aguero, Diego Maradona’s son-in-law, is going to continue to make a huge impact and his second goal had everyone off their seats in both the stadium and at homes where it was being watched on TV. The Argentine made a sensational debut!
What’s the problem with Joey Barton?
Joey Barton involved in controversy in the 0-0 Newcastle-Arsenal draw. True, Arsenal’s Alex Song stamped on Barton without referee Peter Walton seeing it. TV replays picked it up so one assumes the FA will deal with that. Gervinho received a red for slapping Barton in return for Barton grabbing him. Joey made a meal of it and should have got more than a yellow. The yellow he received for handling Gervinho so heavily was correct but it was a pity that yellows are not also given for feigning injuries! The slap on Barton was really not enough to pole-axe him. Gervinho had to go for raising his hand to Barton.
Could some-one tell me what is the problem with Joey Barton? Hopefully the FA will take a look at Barton’s actions. It begs the question: Why do football clubs put up with him?
The early signs are not good for Blackburn
Blackburn have it all to do to stay up. Losing 2-1 to Wolves on the opening day does not decide anything. But to survive it’s matches against your fellow strugglers that decide relegation not the expected losses against the top teams like United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool etc.
Steve Kean is favourite to be the first sacked in the unsavoury managerial betting odds by bookmakers. But the poor fella doesn’t have any money to spend. Next Saturday Blackburn are at Aston Villa. I don’t expect much for them there!
Give David De Gea time
Ashley Young plays better and better. To step into the Manchester United team and in his first Premier League match be the best player on the pitch underlines what a great signing he was by Sir Alex Ferguson this summer. Young set up both goals (the second was an own goal but really Young’s) in the Champions’ 2-1 win against a determined West Bromwich Albion team at the Hawthorns. He was good at everything he did and is a real threat on the wing as well as a great crosser of the ball in both normal play and free-kicks.
Young’s contribution helped balance another error strewn display from United’s new 20-year-old Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea whose nervous error was responsible for WBA’s equaliser. In contrast to Young who was with Aston Villa, De Gea’s introduction to English football has been a mixture of fine saves and a couple of goal-scoring errors! De Gea is an outstanding keeper and will settle down. United’s best ever Peter Schmeichel has a similar start… and look what happened to him. Sir Alex knows it will take a little time.
Well done Norwich
Norwich City start well with a 1-1 draw at Wigan. I really rate their manager Paul Lambert. It will be great if they survive. Lambert has a lot of his old manager Martin O’Neill about him in both dress, looks and style.
Now whatever happened to Martin O’Neill? Lets be having you!
