A three-bedroom home for sale in Tooting

IF you’re looking for a part of London that offers an easy commute into central London but with property values that give you a fighting chance of finding an affordable home then Tooting could be the answer.

The three faces of Tooting – Tooting Bec, Tooting Broadway and Tooting Graveney – offer a range of properties to buy or to rent in this popular SW17 postcode.

There are a range of period homes, some of which have been converted to flats. It should mean something for everyone, whether you’re looking to buy a property in Tooting or looking to rent somewhere in this part of south London.

Mainline rail links complement the tube train stops (Northern Line) and numerous bus services ensuring no shortage of public transport links to central London or other parts of the capital. Mind you, it’s apparently only five miles to Charing Cross so cycling, walking or jogging might even be a keep-fit option.

As with all of our area guides, you can limit your search for a home in Tooting by price or number of bedrooms. And using the map view, you can zoom out to try and find that one-bedroom flat or six-bedroom mansion that might be just a bit further afield.

You come under the Borough of Wandsworth and the Greater London Authority if you buy or rent in Tooting. Both have a number of useful links on their websites. You’ll want to take a look at the Council Tax rates of course but the Borough of Wandsworth website also has a “Moving into the area” section which will deal with the practical issues of parking permits and bin collections. The Greater London Authority website includes a London Rents map with much good advice on becoming a tenant in London.

The flagship for the leisure side of Tooting is Tooting Bec Common with its lido and the adjacent Tooting Graveney Common. Below you’ll find a number of links to help you sort out schools, GPs and other items on your ‘To Do’ list when moving into the Tooting area.

Outrageous. These are not prices that people can afford, let alone those on a first time buy. People who say property prices will soar are talking nonsense. How can they do this when people cannot afford to buy them and mortgage funds are scarce.

The reality is that property prices will drop substantially over the next ten years and do you think incomes will have gone up by then? Not a chance. We will have ten more years of lost generations of highly qualified people unable to find work, who will go abroad.

This is how the coalition will be judged at the end of the day. The deficit cutting is a fine story when you have a secure income and a roof over your head and a future. When you have no job and no prospects the last thing on those people’s minds is deficit cutting.

This will do for the coalition eventually, if not this election, then the one after, and is a wonderful chance for Labour to have a blueprint for jobs and back to work Britain. I doubt this current leader is up to it, but until someone is, the voting pattern will be negative and scores people who would normally vote will not have the enthusiasm to do so.
