Kensington: One of the most sought-after locations in London

IT’S no good pretending that you’re going to find anywhere in Kensington for the average house-buyer or first-time buyer. This has the UK’s most expensive street and it’s unlikely anyone on a tight budget is going to be helped to find a home by this glance at properties for sale in W8.

Even the news that the area has suffered a 1.4 per cent drop in house prices in the last year is unlikely to help: the average price still comes in at £1,246,372. The average price for a flat is £896,984 and even the humble terrace comes in at an impressive £2,622,631.

All we mere mortals can do is drool over the gorgeous properties on offer here and plan for the day the business we started up in our youth is one day floated on the stock market.

But let’s start off at the reasonable end of the Kensington market: A two-bedroom flat for sale in Old Court Palace, Kensington for £850,000. It is a sixth-floor flat in a portered period mansion – saying it’s in a “much sought-after location” is probably unnecessary but it’s on High Street, Kensington.

Those looking for a larger flat in the Kensington area might consider this four-bedroom flat for sale on Marloes Road. The balcony offers you an impressive view over London (see top picture). The agents make mention of the space available for entertaining friends with a dining room and drawing room. The guide price is £3,400,000.

If it’s a house you’re looking  for in the Kensington area then prepare to spend in excess of £17m for this six-bedroom house in Cornwall Gardens. The agents’ pictures give you an idea of the top-drawer quality you can expect inside.

Renting might be an option for you though be prepared for a £500 figure for weekly rent in this part of London.
