Caught & Social: Little rest for double-duty duke

A seriously late night didn’t prevent Prince William from turning up for an official duty at the Royal Marsden hospital in South London yesterday. The night before, the Duke of Cambridge had been called into action in his other day job – as a search and rescue helicopter pilot in Wales, and ended up being out until dawn. But he managed a cheerful smile as he met patients and staff when he and his wife opened a new £18m cancer ward.

Best of British pop is celebrated

Nicola Roberts arrives at the BT Digital Music Awards at the Roundhouse in London last night, which celebrated some of this year’s biggest British pop success stories. Adele and Jessie J continued to pick up plaudits as they won best independent artist and best female artist respectively. Breakthrough artist went to Ed Sheeran and best male was to Olly Murs, right. Biggest winners, however, were fellow X-Factor products, the chest-baring boyband JLS, won two awards, for best group and best video.

Brad Pitt has revealed he only has one gear, and it’s forward. “If I’m walking out of the door and I’ve forgotten something I can’t go back and get it. It is something inmy nature,” he tells Empire. “If I’m driving down the road and I miss a turn, I have to keep going forwards. I can’t reverse. It’s some kind of psychological defect. I don’t know the reason why. I don’t like to go backwards. It’s just not what I’m good at.”Last time we take a lift from him.

Pity poor Jessie J, whose recent accident made her realise the fragility of the modern musician. “You give so much as an artist, you give, you give, you give…” she tells Q magazine. “People think you go to a special hospital, get special casts and treatment. It’s a lie – I’m the same as anyone else. And that was a moment when I had a proper good cry.” It’s getting pretty emotional just writing this.

Liz’s flick for charity

After a trip to New York with her rejuvenated antipodean lover Shane Warne, Elizabeth Hurley jetted back into London to host a charity event at Selfridges yesterday. After signing products for shoppers, the model and actress turned on the special pink lights in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
