Estonia are the lowest Fifa ranked team in the Euro 2012 play-offs, but this will be no push-over for Giovanni Trapattoni’s men in green. For a start Ireland have a pretty awful record in play-offs in competitive events. In the last 16 years they have contested five play-offs games, and won only one. And while Ireland have certainly had the best of the draw, Estonia did really well to finish above 2010 World Cup finalists Serbia and Slovenia in their group and the tiny Le Coq Arena in Tallinn will be packed out and very intimidating as Tarmo Ruutli’s team bid to become the first Estonian side to quality for a major finals. Trapattoni will be delighted to come away with a draw from this away first leg, especially as he has some serious injury worries. Shane Long and Leon Best are already ruled out, while John O’Shea and Liam Lawrence are touch and go. Ireland have proved to have a very strong defence through qualification, conceding only seven times in ten games in coming second to Russia in Group B. Their games averaged just 2.2 goals. I expect this to be another tight one.
