Polinski: This could be genius

Polinski blue wall 1 300x199 Polinski: This could be genius“Fucking exciting.” “A total blast.” “This could be genius”.

You wouldn’t be expected to associate these three opinions to an artist that has done everything themselves.  This triumvirate of compliments has found its way to underground electronica/sci-fi merchant Polinski.

Paul Wolinski – of 65daysofstatic – spearheads his assault on the sci-fi music world with his debut album Labyrinth. The later part of the naughties have seen a saturating of the ideal of ‘modern music’, but its Wolinski’s work that quenches our communal thirst for something original, something fresh and something impressive.

Seeing a successful artist donate themselves and their proceedings to a charitable cause is an unlikely specimen, with the last outstanding cases being LiveAid and Madonna adopting half of Africa. The electro alchemist Paul Wolinski – or ‘stage’ name Polinski – has decided to make his mark and donate all proceeds from his digital single ‘AWaltzOfLight’ to causes such as Oxfam.

Why do I say all this? Because it seems in a market that is saturated by auto-tuned teenagers and bands with twenty songs too many about ‘the one that got away’, acts such as the aforementioned are a welcome change of pace. Acts such as Polinski are the light at the end of that auto-tuned tunnel.

There can never be a drought of selfless notions at a time when selfish ideals are singular money-makers alone. The marauder of electronic frequencies has carved a path in which we can all walk and we can all admire. Charitable causes and an almost unpronounceable surname are not Wolinksi’s only claims to fame. Along with 65daysofstatic, he has soundtrackedvarious things including contemporary dance piece ‘Inside’ and sci-fi filmSilent Running. We can recognise other efforts such as this as an honest an accurate pioneering effort for music, and it is an aspect that we can all appreciate.

His music is futuristic, as is his approach, a true pioneer.
