Caught & Social: Cast of ‘The Artist’ party all night
After the backslapping and the gong-giving, the stars of the 2012 Orange British Academy Film Awards retired to do some well-earned partying. The hottest ticket in townwas the Weinstein Company’s party at Kitchen Joël Antunes and Le Baron in London. The cast of The Artist were celebrating their armful of awards, while director Michel Hazanavicius was talking about his next project – a completely different, “political” film. Cuba Gooding Jr. was once again hanging out with Naomi Campbell, while Jonah Hill, Michael Fassbender and Ralph Fiennes were ruling the roost on the dancefloor.
Scene & Heard
Madonna has been accused of plagiarism by lawyers acting for Brazilian singer João Brasil, who claim her song “Give Me All Your Luvin”sounds similar to Brasil’s intriguingly-titled track “L.O.V.E. Banana”. “I still don’t understand what happened,”he said. “I’m a huge fan of hers. If it’s plagiarism, then even better. She is always at the cutting edge of music, so it’s a good sign about what I do… [But] the last thing I need inmylife is a fight with Madonna.”
Happier news for producer Diplo, who tweeted his enhanced enjoyment at the Grammy Awards. “Smokin a doobie at the folkways records afterparty with Rihanna and Dave Grohl.”
Also feeling confessional was Samuel L. Jackson, who revealed why he voted for Barack Obama. “That’s politics, pure and simple. [Obama’s] message didn’t mean s**t to me,”he told Ebony. “In the end, he’s a politician. I just hoped he would do some of what he said he was gonna do. I know politicians say s**t; they lie cuz they want to get elected.”
One Elle of a stylish night out
Awards season was still in full swing last night for the annual Elle Style Awards at The Savoy, London. Among the high-profile guests and winners of the magazine’s prizes included musician Florence Welch, modelturned- actress Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley and some of the female stars of lacy soap opera Downton Abbey. Also there was breakthrough actress Jessica Chastain, who says that 2012 is going to be just as busy as last year. “I’ve got four films coming out and I’m on Broadway at the end of the year.”Also turning heads was the male face of D&G David Gandy who is recently single. Let’s hope his admirers formed an orderly queue.
An outstanding promotion schedule
After spending Sunday night presenting and picking up (respectively) the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award at the Baftas, Billy Bob Thornton and John Hurt jetted off to Berlin for that city’s film festival, where they are promoting their movie, Jayne Mansfield’s Car.
