Are Dads the New Moms?

I have just finished the first draft of my book, Questions to Which the Answer is No, which collects the best of the 801 examples from newspapers and new media that I have listed on this blog since 2009.

There was one thing missing, though. I have listed the questions in chronological order, in the hope of providing a capsule history of some of the weirdnesses of the media, with a sub-plot of politics, from Gordon Brown’s “save the world” G20 summit to Francis Maude’s jerry can.

Which means I start with this from the Daily Mail on 6 February 2009 (pictured):

The trouble was that I didn’t have anything quite so bonkers on which to end.

Are Dads the New Moms?

That is quite an achievement: to get so much that is awful into just five words. But if anyone spots a better QTWTAIN with which to end the book’s series, let me know.

  Well I don’t know whether Dads are the New Mums or not, but over the past few years in my area I’ve noticed more and more MEN at the helm of pushchairs containing babies or toddlers.

  These men I’ve seen are of various ages, ranging from 18 to 80.

  This role reversal is somewhat evocative of the Second World War, when women took over “men’s work”

  Are litearary blogs the right forum to promote your book?
  How do you get the word around when many people write and a few read.

  KRISHNABHATT,

  I personally have no objection to people publicising their books on these forums.  Why not?  It’s just communication.  

  Provided that they don’t force us to watch adverts for baked beans or cars every other sentence.

  I rarely buy new books myself, I usually get them 2nd hand or from the local library.  I wonder if John Rentoul’s new book will be in my library?
