The Banned List Widget

John Rentoul

tbl 186x300 The Banned List WidgetThere is now a Google Chrome extension called The Banned List Highlighter, which you can download and it will mark words and phrases from the Banned List on any webpage, if you are using Chrome.

(You can switch it off and on when you want.)

I am most grateful to Andrew Regan for his work on this. When I first enquired about the possibility of getting a program like this made I was told that it would cost a few thousand pounds, but he has done it just for the love of the English language.

Give it a try and let us know what you think.

You can buy the Banned List book, or download the e-edition, and updates are posted in this blog thread.

Any chance of one to employ when using MSword so as to avoid using such phrases in ones own work?

That would be too hard. But you could copy your text into a Google Docs document on Chrome.

Good Idea, I shall do so with haste, although I shall be slightly nervous about the results
