iBet: Russia looking good at Euro 2012

Gareth Purnell

Poland v Russia
Lay Poland at 2.35 to one

Czech Republic v Greece
Lay Czech Republic at 1.44 to one

We tipped up Russia to win Group A last week and the bet is looking good after a mightily impressive 4-1 over the Czech Republic. Whether that’s down to Russia being very good or the Czechs being pretty poor remains to be seen, but they shouldn’t have too much to fear from Poland who in my view should be a longer price that 2.35 to one to beat them. Yes, Poland have fervent home support behind them. But after a bright start against Greece in their first game they faded badly and were very lucky indeed not to lose after the Greek’s missed a penalty. It must have amused Tottenham and Arsenal fans to see  Pavlyuchenko and Arshavin playing so well for the Russians – but they looked ruthless in attack and it’s also worth noting that they only conceded four times in 10 games in qualification. Russia are 49 places higher in the FIFA rankings than Poland, and with the draw on our side I make the Poles a lay in this game.

The Czech’s only just beat Scotland to qualification while Greece out-qualified Croatia and were undefeated in their group. Yet the Czech’s are clear 11/8 favourites to win the night’s other clash. That’s surely not right. Consider laying them at 1.44 to one with Betfair.
