John Rentoul

sd manhattanunder 0705 300x195 Does Manhattan Need a Subterranean Park?Fine Question to Which the Answer is No asked by Time magazine: number 827 in my cult series, soon to be published in book form.

Via Tim Abrahams.

Number 828 was asked by Hadley Freeman of the Guardian:

Could climate change make the English character more Nordic?

Thanks to Brian Nolan.

And number 829 was asked by Professor Steven Fielding, of Nottingham University, after Jesse Norman’s starring role in the Conservative backbench revolt against House of Lords reform:

Is Jesse Norman Benjamin Disraeli to Cameron’s Peel?

Tony Blair needs a subterranean park 6′6″ by 3′6″”

I don’t think I like the sound of a subterranean park. It sounds a bit claustrophobic to me. There’s nothing like the fresh, open air is there?

Thank God for giving us that wonderful thing called AIR! Mind you, AIR causes us a lot of bother too doesn’t it, it’s the source of all our CLIMATIC concerns today after all.

And think of all that digging! It would cost a fortune. That’s why here in Birmingham we are developing a SURFACE rapid transit system (TRAMS) rather than an UNDERGROUND – because all that DIGGING would cost a fortune.

I can’t wait to go on the new TRAMS in Birmingham city centre! They’ve just started work on them apparently.

Sorry if I’m the bringer of gloomy news but I think the world is getting close to the point when a fine Question to Which the Answer is No is “is anyone other than John Rentoul still interested in his series of Questions to Which the Answer is No?”.
