Poll: Sack George Osborne

George Osborne should be sacked as Chancellor, voters agree by a two-to-one margin, as Labour close the gap on economic credibility in a ComRes opinion poll for tomorrow’s Independent on Sunday, shared with the Sunday Mirror.

George Osborne should be replaced as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Agree – 44%

Disagree – 20%

Don’t know – 36%

Among Conservative voters more than one in five (22%) agree, as do two in five (40%) Liberal Democrat voters.

On the economy, the net score for Cameron and Osborne is -31, just one point ahead of Miliband and Balls on -32.

Ed Miliband has maintained his lead over David Cameron in leaders’ personal rating (see graph, courtesy of Matt Chorley). Although all three leaders have negative net ratings, Miliband’s has risen to -17 points, with Cameron on -27 and Nick Clegg on -42.

G4S, the private security company that is providing security staff for the London 2012 Olympics, has recently announced that it will not be able to provide enough security staff to meet their contractual agreement for the Games. 3,500 soldiers and police from forces around the country are being drafted in to secure the Games. Do you agree or disagree with each of the following statements?

The London 2012 Olympics will benefit the private sponsors of the Games but not the ordinary people of Britain

Again, older people are more likely to agree: 72% of those aged 65 and over agree, compared to 54% of those aged 18 to 24.

People in Scotland (31%) are least likely to agree. Highest agreement is found in the West Midlands (48%); 44% of men say they are looking forward to the Olympics compared with 38% of women.
