iBet: Great Britain has the overwhelming favourite in the triathlon
Men’s Olympic Triathlon
Back Alistair Brownlee to win gold at 8/13
This will be one of the best free-to-view events of the Games. The course begins and ends in Hyde Park, which will be largely open to the public, and takes in a 1,500m open water swim, a 40km bike ride and a 10,000m run. Most importantly, Great Britain has the overwhelming 8/13 favourite in Alistair Brownlee, and the second favourite too in his brother Jonathan. Then only 20, Alistair faded down the stretch in Beijing to finish 12th. Since then however he has proved himself to be a class above in this gruelling event, winning all five World Championship series events he entered in 2009. Despite being hampered by injuries in 2010, he has still won six more events, including the London test race last August. He tore an Achilles tendon earlier this year, but won his first race back in Austria in late June, where his brother finished second, less than a minute behind. He’s odds on, but arguably should be even shorter.

Those who got to see the dry run of the opening ceremony seemed impressed, and Paddy Power have opened a book on how many people will watch it on the BBC. Under 22 million is the odds on favourite with 22-26 million 7/2, 26-30 and 30-34 at 9/2, and over 34 million the outsider at 11/2.
