London Bridge
After weeks of dire warnings over commuting during the Olympics, Londoners have been pleasantly surprised to find London Bridge station less busy than usual today. @nickw84 tweets “If ‘exceptionally busy’ means ‘remarkably less busy, but slightly more complicated to walk around’, then London Bridge is exceptionally busy.” It’s only Day 3, though, lets not jinx it…

Olympic excitement continues unabated, after the riotously successful Opening Ceremony this weekend. Today’s most hotly anticipated event is clearly women’s beach volleyball. Amid a tide of predictably smutty tweets, Modern Family writer, @DannyZucker nobly celebrates the sportsmanship of the game (or does he?): “It’s nice seeing these rival women’s beach volleyball teams hug each other after a tough match. Really, really nice. Really. #Nice”
#Aleppo
International concern is mounting as Syrian troops continue to bombard the city in one of the most important battles of the uprising. Activists warn a massacre is looming. @BBCiPannell tweets: “My family has gone and I need somewhere safe to stay.” Fear and hunger in #Aleppo #Syria”
Bale
There’s a British swimmer called Rob Bale, but the Bale trending today is Spurs footballer Gareth, who withdrew from the Team GB squad due to injury. He’s called Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adams “a bit of a coward” over a heavy challenge during a pre-season friendly. @ag1892 asks “Is Gareth Bale not the coward for not playing in the Olympics?”
