Citizen Kane / Vertigo
The results of the once-in-a-decade, much-anticipated (well, for film snobs, anyway) Sight & Sound film poll is out and Citizen Kane has been knocked of the top spot by Hitchcock’s 1958 story of obsessive love, Vertigo. BBC film critic @DannytheLeigh tweets: ”Happy Citizen Kane no longer “the greatest film ever made” – convinced that ends up putting people off it, and it’s glorious. #albatross”
Royal Mail
The postman’s Olympic celebrations are meeting with widespread approval. @Harry_Cross_ tweets: ”Made up! My EXCLUSIVE limited edition Olympic Heroes stamp has arrived from @RoyalMail http://yfrog.com/20bncij .” There are also plans to paint a post box medal metalic in the hometown of every winner. Next up is a gold one in Kilburn for Wiggo.
Killing Them Softly
After the excitiment over the new Skyfall trailer earlier in the week, Andrew Dominik’s new crime thriller (which starts Brad Pitt as a professional enforcer) also has a trailer out. @mrpaulnelson calls it “A sausagefest of ace actors & dark humour.”
iPhone 5
Apple are rumoured to be releasing the next iPhone in October, but the rumour mill is already at full pelt, and has been since last year. US tweeters are balking at a mooted $800 price tag (which, sadly, sounds like a bargain to European technophiles). @_TOOmuchSWAGG says: “iPhone 5 $800 ? It better be able to find me when I lose it.”
