A pedantic interlude
More from the Catch-Up Service. Before I went on holiday, I stood in for Guy Keleny in his Errors & Omissions column, which I always enjoy.
On 14 July, I did needlessly long words, “lain” and “belie”.
On 21 July, I did “whom’s”, spoilers and misplaced clauses.
On 28 July, I did “for free”, “fell pregnant” and split infinitives.
But I did nothing so bold as Simon O’Hagan, who stood in for Keleny’s fourth week off, who came out in favour, in certain circumstances, of the Oxford comma, which you note that I have not used in my three-part lists above.
Now order is restored. Keleny is in his place on Saturday (with a bonus appearance on Usain Bolt’s claim to be a “legend”) and all’s right with the world.
