iBet: Will Lucas Podolski be the Premier League top scorer?
Premier League Top Goalscorer
Back Lucas Podolski on the handicap market at 10/1
Back Lucas Podolski each way at 40/1
A hugely interesting market that will give a big priced winner if you can call it right is the Premier League Top Scorer handicap market, being offered up by Totesport and Betfred. The way it works is that apart from the favourite, Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, everyone gets a head start of varying degrees with most of the field going off at 15-1. An exception is Arsenal’s new signing Lucas Podolski, who gets a 15 goal start and is 10-1, presumably because he’s already been backed. But with both firms offering a quarter of the odds the first four, that is absolutely bet material. There’s no doubt that Podolski is a natural goalscorer, having notched 79 times in 169 appearances for Koln. He broke into the German international team in 2004 and has been part of the squad ever since, scoring a mighty impressive 44 times in 101 appearances including against some of the best international sides on the planet. Even with Robin Van Persie involved all season the bet is value, and if he leaves, Podolski will be the spearhead of the Arsenal attack and becomes a big runner in the Premier League top goalscorer market. The 40-1 available with Sporting Bet and BetFred in that market is also too big to ignore.

To my eyes Everton look more or less an each way bet to nothing in the ‘Premier League winner without the Big Six’ market at 11/4 with BetVictor. They pay out on the top three.
