iBet: Motherwell not bristling with confidence

Gareth Purnell

Europa League

Motherwell v Levante, kick off 7.45pm

Back Levante at even money (generally available)

Out of all the games in tonight’s Europa League ties, this one jumps out at me as a potential miss match. Motherwell were dispatched from the Champions League qualifying round 5-0 by Panathanaikos (including a 2-0 home reverse) and boss Stuart McCall says that he’s happy to be playing top class opposition and the chance of another attractive trip for the Motherwell fans. That does not strike me as a manager bristling with confidence and on paper Levante should simply have too much class. They are used to playing in the ultra tough Spanish La Liga where they finished sixth last season, and for much of the campaign they were vying for a top four finish. The Spaniards have made six signings over the summer and are just the sort of outfit who are likely to be taking this competition seriously. Any team that can beat Real Madrid, as Levante did last season, is surely far too good for any Scottish Premier League side. You can lay Motherwell at 3.5 to one with Betfair but this could be an occasion simply to back the away side.

Advices

Newcastle go off best price 11/8 favourites to win at Greek side Atromitos Athinon, who have never won anything. However, Alan Pardew looks set to rest plenty of key players ahead of the Premier League game against Chelsea. Liverpool are a little better than one to two on to win at Hearts.
