Clint Eastwood

Mitt Romney accepted his party’s nomination at the Republican National Convention yesterday, but it’s actor/director Clint Eastwood’s bizarre ten-minute endorsement that’s grabbing the headlines. Editor of the i @stefanohat says, “sad to see a legend like clint eastwood humiliate himself at the RNC – worse he borrowed a trick from @piersmorgan.” US comedian @chrisrockoz sees a conspiracy at work “Clint Eastwood on the phone with Obama now: “It all went according to plan, sir.” #RNC #GOP2012

#TransferDeadlineDay

Carroll to West Ham, Dempsey to Villa, Bryan Oviedo and Bermatov; footie gossip is a cranked up to warp speed for the last day of transfers. @CharlesLawley is celebrating: “In true #TransferDeadlineDay spirt, I’m going to go to the pub tonight, panic when last orders are called & buy a pint of Strongbow for £42.”

#R1Cheryl

Clint Eastwood’s 10 minutes of fame at the Republican National
Convention was bizarre to say the least. His skit interview of Mr Obama
was at times difficult to follow and lacked the impact and humour of a
similar sketch by Bob Newhart performed in the 1980’s. At times
Eastwood seemed uncertain about giving Romney a 100% endoresement and
capitulated between left and right, reflecting his own political record
of registering as a Republican in the 1950’s, endorsing Nixon’s
presidential campaigns in the late 60’s and 70’s, yet speaking out
against America’s involvement in Korea in the 50’s, Vietnam in the 60’s,
and Iraq and Afghanistan in the early 2000’s. He served a term
as Mayor of Carmel, California in the late 80’s and endorsed the campaigns
of Democrats Sam Farr and Gray Davis. He is on record as supporting
pro-choice on abortion and same-sex marriage. I really don’t know what
to make of his appearance in Tampa.
