Danish champions FC Nordsjaelland equipped themselves quite well on Match Day 1, enjoying 62 per cent of the possession before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at Shakhtar Donetsk. However, they didn’t do much with it, creating only three attempts on goal in the 90 minutes, compared to their opponent’s 20, and although they are clearly no mugs, it could be that they are simply out of their depth in the final third at this level. The bookies seem to agree, making Chelsea 1/3 to win away from home, but that’s a short price for any away Champions League game and we need to look for value elsewhere. The Londoners have won five of their six Premier League games and showed plenty of nous in defeating an in-form Arsenal outfit at The Emirates on Saturday. More importantly they have the best defence in the English top flight, with only three conceded so far at an average of 0.5 goals a game. The holders also kept things tight in the group games last time around, conceding only four times in six games, and under the same manager it’s hard to imagine they will approach their Champions League away days any differently.
Advices
There’s a full list of English lower league fixtures tonight as well. Winless Barnet are propping up League Two and have only scored four goals in nine games. They may be a lay at 2.5 to one against Exeter who have won three of their four away games and have scored ten times in the process.
