It’s not often a property as ancient – and as relatively affordable – as this comes onto the market, a Grade II Listed medieval timber framed house, bits of which date back to at least the 13th century.

This three bedroom end of terrace in Sandwich is on for £475,000 and naturally has plenty of exposed beams around the property which used to belong to a Norman merchant. It was built around 1230 and was also a chantry chapel for a while, falling into ruin post-Reformation, but now modernised and recently refurbished.

As well as the atmospheric interior, there is a lovely enclosed garden.

The roofless stone shell of the chamber block is C13, framing the back garden (and you could camp in that if you wanted), but the house in front is early C16.

So the Indy is an estate agent for it’s nice comfy middle class readership. You disgust me! Oh well, hope whoever gets it will still be able to afford the mortgage in the coming years.
