Poll alert

John Rentoul

comres Poll alertWe have a ComRes opinion poll in The Independent on Sunday tomorrow, shared with the Sunday Mirror. We have asked how people would vote, how they rate the party leaders and whom they trust on the economy, to assess the state of play after the party conference season.

In addition we asked whether people agreed or disagreed with the following statements:

I expect the economy will start showing signs of improvement soon

I do not expect the economy to return to good health for at least five years

I plan to spend less on Christmas this year than last year

The fact that David Cameron went to Eton makes it harder for him to be a good Prime Minister for the whole country

The fact that Ed Miliband went to a comprehensive school means that he is more likely to be in touch with the concerns of most people

It is more important to keep young people in work than it is to reduce government borrowing

A Labour government under Ed Miliband would be better at protecting people’s jobs

In most cases I have sympathy for people going on strike against public spending cuts

The UK has nothing to fear from leaving the European Union

Labour is more of a “one nation” party than the Conservatives

The Conservatives are more of a “one nation” party than Labour

I shall post the results here this evening, and the full tables will be at ComRes.

This looks like your obsession with questions to which the answer is no. Perhaps you could print the questions to which the answer is yes at the same time just for a Smidgen of Balance.

The economy is bad and will remain so. Tensions will grow socially and eventually lead to major problems. The police will “crack down” and then have to face the consequences. Bullets cannot kill an idea. Labour and Tory? They are 2 shades of blue, both irrelevant to what will happen. Europe? Another rich men’s club. Fine idea but did not work in practice (see Soviet Union for a previous effort).

Comres, Gomres-what does it matter when it’s always the same Oxbridge politicians?
