Top 10 Most Interesting Politicians

John Rentoul

sturgeon Top 10 Most Interesting PoliticiansPossibly unwisely, I described Nicola Sturgeon, the deputy leader of the Scottish National Party, as one of the 10 most interesting politicians in the UK. She gave a speech today that Severin Carrell, one of my former colleagues, analysed well.

Inevitably, I was asked who the other nine were, by Politics and Tea, whoever that is. I hadn’t thought about it, so now I was required to.

Here, then, and with apologies for the word “interesting”, which I use too much, is my list, in alphabetical order:

Andrew Adonis, Ed Balls, David Cameron, Stella Creasy, Michael Gove, Boris Johnson, David Laws, Grant Shapps, Anna Soubry and Nicola Sturgeon.

i think perhaps a replacement of the banned list needs to begin, and there needs to be a new list of words that journalists cannot use inappropriately.

interesting, is the first to go on the list.

    Interesting? Maybe.
She’s really delivering a similar message to the one Nigel Farage implies.
Because one of the reasons “the UK’s ability to re-invent itself is spent” is because this feature of governance has been delegated to the EU by Westminster!

Of course, you omit probably *the* most interesting politician in Britain today, for one reason and one reason only. Spite.

And why is our banal, superficial and uninteresting PM on this list. Not to mention Grant Shapps, who is simply a conman.

    Dreadful list.

As the late Douglas Adams (almost) had Arthur Dent saying in The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy:

“Ah, this is obviously some strange usage of the word ‘interesting’ that I wasn’t previously aware of”…
