The old rocker Joe Cocker is asked in the February edition of Uncut magazine what drove him to perform at the inauguration of George Bush Snr as the USA’s 40th President. He confesses: “I had these drugs busts on my record – none of them too serious, but they’d accumulated over the years. When I got married to an American girl, the authorities quashed one of them – and it was thought that I could get rid of another if I agreed to play for Bush. I had no political leanings at all.” Drugs have driven people to do some strange and terrible things…
