iBet: Despite Bradford defeat, back Aston Villa to win the Capital One Cup
Capital One Cup, Outright Market
Back Aston Villa at 8-1 with Betfair
Villa were pretty atrocious in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup semi final against Bradford, especially at the back, and iBet followers who took our advice to lay the Premier League side at odds-on made a tidy profit. However, the Midlanders are unpredictable (remember they knocked out Manchester City and Norwich away from home and have also won at Anfield this season). And although they may now be slight underdogs to go through, from a pure value point of view the market has over-reacted to the 3-1 loss in making them 8-1 in a four-horse race for the cup. They could still easily qualify for the final and if they do they will be half that price if they take on Chelsea, while a game against Swansea would be a flip-of-a-coin job. It’s interesting to note that while Bradford are the third best side in League Two at home, they are only the 16th best side away from Valley Parade. I think that at the price and in front of their own fans, it’s worth chancing that Paul Lambert can inspire his men to overcome a two-goal deficit. If they can and we trade on Betfair, we can ‘arb’ out and secure a profit whatever happens in the final.
