Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Radamel Falcao to form the best strike partnership in the world?
PSG talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic could soon have a rival for occupying nearly ever back page in France , with Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao a possible summer transfer acquisition for the Qatari-owned club.
Falcao – who has scored 21 goals in 19 games this season – stated: “PSG has a very ambitious project and has invested a lot of money to build an important team. They are going to need some time but they could reach their objective very soon.
“It’s not impossible that PSG and me see each other very soon.”
PSG certainly have the financial clout to sign the 26-year-old Colombian, but although his recent comments seem to open the door to a move to the Parc des Princes, PSG know they will have to fend off a whole host of suitors if they are to get their man.
The former Porto man has been linked to Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and perhaps most notably, Chelsea.
Roman Abramovich’s Blues could be PSG’s biggest rivals, but could the prospect of playing with Ibrahimovic instead of Fernando Torres lure Falcao into the clutches of the three-time Ligue 1 champions?
Falcao has already spoken of his admiration for the Swede, saying: “I’ve followed Zlatan’s path. He’s had an incredible career and he has succeeded in every league in which he has played. He is fantastic. He has scored a lot of goals.
“I like being able to compete with this kind of player.”
It is fair to say an Ibrahimovic and Falcao strike partnership would strike fear into any side around the world. With the exception of Lionel Messi, Ibrahimovic and Falcao have been the two most in-form strikers this season.
Together this term, they have scored 36 goals in 36 games. The latter started his season with a bang, grabbing a hat-trick against Chelsea in the Uefa Super Cup, and later followed that up with five against Deportivo La Coruna in December, making him the first player to score five goals in a La Liga game for a decade.
Falcao is the complete striker. His thought process is so intricate, that he claims he could draw how he scored every one of his 177 career goals in detail on a piece of paper. Whether that is true or not, the fact remains that the Colombian is in every club’s thoughts, including PSG.
The potential pairing of Ibrahimovic and Falcao would be as classy and vibrant as they come. Only perhaps the partnership of Manchester United’s Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney would come close, in terms of quality and ability.
There is still alot of work to be done if Falcao is to make the move from Madrid to Paris. However, after Falcao’s quotes, PSG are now the bookmakers favourites to land the world’s most sought after striker. Ibrahimovic and Falcao, watch this space.
Something You May Have Missed
Marseille’s Joey Barton got into a Twitter row with former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann last night. Barton repeatedly told Hamann to “get your life in order” and referred to the German’s gambling problems. The row erupted after Hamann had told Barton to learn some respect, after he Tweeted about Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias, after teammate Loic Remy looked set to snub the Tynesiders in favour of a move to QPR. Barton later apologised.
