Southampton’s decision to sack Nigel Adkins in the midst of their best run of the season (only two defeats in the last 12 games) is bizarre, exacerbated by the knowledge that the man who is replacing him, Mauricio Pochettino, was himself recently ousted from Spanish club Espanyol who are themselves embroiled in a relegation dogfight in La Liga. Adkins won the fans over with successive promotions and the atmosphere at St Mary’s is likely to be full of animosity, which won’t help the home team. It was going to be tough anyway. Everton are an extremely strong and consistent Premier League side and one of only seven with a positive goal difference on their travels. Everton have lost only one game against teams in the bottom half this season whereas Southampton have the worst record in the whole division against teams in the top half (no wins). Laying the home side rather than backing Everton makes the draw a winner for us.

Maria Sharapova set a new record in only losing five games on the way to the quarter finals of the Australian Open. We backed her at 8-1 and 9/2 and she’s now in to 7/2 second favourite. If she reaches the final, back the other finalist as well so that you win whatever the outcome.
