Watford continued their great form with a very impressive 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest at the weekend. They are now firmly in the playoff picture and indeed are only one point off the automatic promotion places. It was almost a given that manager Gianfranco Zola would try and play the game ‘the right way’ and he has not disappointed. The Hornets tally of 56 goals in 28 games is the highest in the division. Watford are particularly deadly away from home when they can soak up pressure and counter. They have notched 32 times on their travels – that’s seven more than anyone else at this level and it’s telling to note that they’ve scored eight goals more away from home than they have at Vicarage Road. Watford’s record of eight away wins and 26 points scored on their travels is the best in The Championship. Bristol City by contrast are the fourth worst home team at this level and they also have the leakiest home defence with 34 conceded. They have however scored 26 at Ashton Gate for a home average of more than four goals at game. It all points to a high scoring game with a good chance of another Watford success.
It was a weekend of major cup shocks, especially out-of-form Oldham beating Liverpool and Norwich losing at home to Conference side Luton. The bookies now make the two Manchester clubs joint 5/2 favourites, with Chelsea 5/1, Arsenal (6/1) and Everton 7/1.
