Downsizer hotspots
Neal Hudson at Savills has put together some interesting statistics about downsizing in the UK, in particular looking at the amount of equity released by changing from a four-bedroom home to a two-bedroom one.
Doing just this in Mole Valley, Surrey, can free up £330,000 on average with Chichester, the Cotswolds, and Christchurch all also around the £300,000 level.
Neal does a lot of interestingly readable analysis using housing and property stats (his own blog nealhudson.com is particularly full of charts and graphs) – on the Savills site he has recently looked at likely future commuter hotspots and why Surrey is in London and Bath is in the south east (featuring some interesting thoughts for those living in York and Newcastle).
