iBet: Goals likely at both ends in Paris

Gareth Purnell

PSG V Barcelona, kick off 7.45pm, live ITV1

Back both teams to score at 4/5
Back Lionel Messi to score at any time at 7/10

PSG have an excellent defensive record domestically – only 20 goals conceded in 29 league games. However, they conceded in both legs against Valencia in the last round and they do not often come up against teams like Barcelona – who dominate possession and play very offensively. The Spaniards’ ethos comes at a price and the most telling statistic is that Barcelona (8/11 to win tonight and just 1/5 to qualify) have conceded in 15 of their last 17 matches. With so much special talent in their ranks they will almost always score, even when playing badly, as they did in the 2-2 draw at the weekend with La Liga strugglers Celta Vigo. Paris lack experience at this level but in Zlatan Ibrahimovic (13/8 to score tonight) they have a high class player who is capable of scoring against the very best.

Traditionally the story goes that teams take their foot off the gas in league games before big Champions League fixtures, but Bayern Munich (4/6 to beat Juventus tonight) knocked that theory into a cocked hat by slamming nine past Hamburg on Saturday, Claudio Pizarro scoring four. The Peruvian hitman is a stand-out 5/2 with Ladbrokes to score tonight. This however could be a very different game, with Juve likely to keep it tight even if they fall behind.
