We called the first leg of this tie spot on and are sitting on a nice 7/2 bet on Bayern Munich to win the Champions League (they are 4/6 at the time of writing). Frankly the 4-0 scoreline didn’t flatter the Germans who were much better than the Spaniards in every department. They are out to over 20/1 with Betfair to qualify and even at that price I’d sooner be a layer than a backer.
The fact of the matter is that Bayern look for all the world like the best side in Europe, and they are improving as the season progresses. Barcelona have been great at home and have won La Liga at a canter, but they concede too many goals and with Lionel Messi seemingly off his game a bit, they are vulnerable.
In a way it’s understandable that the markets make Barcelona odds-on to win tonight – the memory of how they dismantled Milan at the Nou Camp is fresh in the memory. But for my money Bayern Munich are an altogether proposition. They are full of confidence and they almost never lose a game. Bayern have to go for it and there will surely be goals, but it’s easy to see the home side being picked off.
Ladbrokes go 4/7 that seven or more Wales players will start the first Lions test. It’s 5/2 that six will start, 6-1 five and 16/1 four.
