iBet: Benfica are a mighty force at Estadio Da Luz

Europa League Semi Final, 2nd leg, kick off 8.05pm, ITV4

Back Benfica at 1.45 with Betfair

Benfica would have been happy to come away from the first leg with a goal less draw and arguably played for one. But although they dominated possession, Fenerbahce carried the greater threat with 11 shots to the visitor’s five and deserved their 1-0 success on the night. Whether they can go to Portugal to get a result is a major doubt however. I’m not saying they are not capable. They certainly made people sit up and take notice out when they knocked out Lazio. However, Benfica are a pretty irresistible force at the 65,000 capacity Estadio Da Luz. In fact they have only lost one game there all season – their first match of the campaign being a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona. Since then they’ve played 19 games in front of their fans, scored in every one of them, won 17, drawn the other two and racked up over 50 goals. They are not a big price, but the most straightforward strategy might just be to back them to win at 1.45.

Chelsea are around ½ favourites to see off Basel in the other semi final second leg, and some will be tempted to double them up with Benfica. There could be a few goals in this one. It’s 4/6 that there will be at least three goals and 5/6 that both teams score.
