Something For The Weekend in London: May 3-5
It’s the return of the three-day weekend which means the chance to get up to everything 72 hours just can’t handle – so we’ve penciled in Breakin’ Convention, a street fest in East, Roof top cinema and the long awaited re-opening of the Serpentine Lido (because this weekend’s gonna be a scorcher!)
ART & CULTURE: Breakin’ Convention 2013, Sadler’s Wells, Rosebery Avenue, EC1R 4TN
How much: From £20
We say: 10 years in existence, Breakin Convention continues to be a celebration of Hip Hop dance – the groups showing this year will be from around the globe including, Korea, France, Spain, and USA – and for the first time the festival will have a UK only night, showcasing the latest in UK urban dance style.
NIGHTLIFE: Nineties by Nature at The Book Club, 100 Leonard Street, EC2A 4RH
How much: £5 before 9pm
We say: We’re eternally stuck in the 90s, and so is the music policy at this night at TBC featuring sets from DJs Bad Zuke, Hamish Pritchard and nauti.cool.
ALTERNATIVE: Serpentine Lido, Hyde Park
How much: £4
We say: It looks like it’ll be close to 20 degrees this weekend, so consider heading to this legendary lido which has been keeping Londoners cool for over 100 years (!).
ALTERNATIVE: Spin London, Old Truman Brewery, 5 Hanbury Street, E1 6QR
How much: £10
We say: Spin London is the world’s first urban focused bicycle show and festival, featuring talks, music, installations, demonstrations, films, food, static cycle racing (!!) and an opportunity to feast your eyes on some of the leading fashion brands in the world of two-wheeled transport.
ALTERNATIVE: Streetfest London
How much: £15 on the door
We say: Streetfest is back to ease you into the Bank Holiday Monday with its dynamic variety of music, skating, design and live art, never to be missed.
CINEMA: Rooftop Cinema at Queen of Hoxton, 1-5 Curtain Rd London, Greater London EC2A 3JX
How much: Various
We say: All hail the return of one of the coolest open-air cinema clubs in town! Rooftop Cinema is showing the classic Flight of the Navigator this weekend, but check out the rest of their programme of throwback films they’ll be showing over the summer – tickets sell out fast!
