iBet: Look each way for value in The Cote D’Azur Open

Back Pablo Andujar each way at 18/1 (Betfair Sportsbook)

With the top nine players in the men’s world tennis rankings all missing this tournament to prepare for the French Open, this is a rare occasion when we can look for a bit of value. Nice is an outdoor clay event and so we are looking for players at home on the surface.

World number 17 Gilles Simon goes off 7/2 favourite with Betfair Sportsbook and he will have fervent home support, but this does not look like an event to be backing the favourite in to me. American John Isner (ranked 21) is next up in the betting at 6/1. He did win on this kind of surface in Houston this year but is more of a hard court specialist.

One player who jumps out as possible each way value at the prices is Spaniard Pablo Andujar. He’s ranked at number 53 in the world, but is and out-and-out clay court specialist with a record of 132 wins to 88 defeats on the surface on the ATP Challenge Tour. He was at the top of his game in the recent Madrid Open, coming through four rounds and defeating four players ranked higher than him, including Isner and world number 11 Marin Cilic, before being blown away by Rafael Nadal in the semi final. It’s also interesting to note that he’s been the most popular bet with Oddschecker in the run up to the event.

England’s cricketers are 8/13 to defeat New Zealand in the second test at Headingley. Given decent weather, that looks a fair price.
