Back Justin Rose in a match bet with Graeme McDowell at 4/5 with Betfair Sportsbook

McDowell did brilliantly to land the World Match Play title in Bulgaria last week, but it’s a format which suits him (he was second last year) and there are a number reasons for thinking that Justin Rose should be shorter than 4/5 to outscore him at Wentworth. For a start a gruelling week of match play and any amount of press commitments is hardly ideal preparation for the PGA, but more importantly is the course, which is an extreme tee to green examination that suits excellent driving and iron play. On the face of it you would think that’s right up McDowell’s street, but the tour stats tell a different story. The Northern Irishman is only 161st in the ‘greens in regulation’ table, whereas Rose, who loves the course and was second last year to an inspired Luke Donald, is 12th in that table on the European tour and 11th in the States. There’s another factor at play here too. The weather looks like it will be unsettled, and Rose is a master in such conditions with his ability to punch shots low into a wind, keeping the ball below the tree line at Wentworth.

Championship and Premier League football clubs have tabled a motion to trial the rail seat system of standing a football grounds used in Germany and Paddy Power go 13/2 that terraces will return to the top flight before the end of 2015. Aston Villa are 6/1 favourites to be the first to employ the system.
