iBet: Mercedes and Hamilton to roar in Monaco
Monaco Grand Prix, Sunday
Back Lewis Hamilton at 7/2
Monaco is a street circuit where driver ability is more important than anywhere else and if we take the view that the best drivers should be up there then Lewis Hamilton looks a stand out price at 7/2. Along with Alonso he’s widely regarded as the most gifted of drivers but there are other reasons for thinking that it’s a price that should be taken.
The main reason is that Mercedes have been on the front row for the last three races and Monaco is a narrow course where it’s extremely difficult to pass the car in front. The track, with its winding nature and therefore slower speeds, should also present the team with fewer tire degradation issues than in previous races where they have flattered only to deceive.
So it must be music to the ears of Hamilton and team mate Nico Rosberg that experts predict a two-stop strategy. At the time of writing those two are leading the practice times as well, which adds to my confidence, and in a straight shoot-out between the two on a street circuit I would be with the Englishman every time.
